The Royal Canadian Circus had a fantastic 2015 season. We are proud of the many fun activities we provided to families in Alberta. It was a great year, with the traditional big-top tent, the Flying Cortes Family, and the Globe of Fire, as well as the live animals, our clowns, and the various clowns. In one last blast, we wanted to celebrate all the family fun activities you’ve enjoyed this year.
The media visits the circus.
This season, we were extremely fortunate with the amount of media attention our circus received. The media coverage of our chaos was a great way to show off the fun activities we offer for families.
Shaw TV on Circus
Shaw TV visited us in May. They gave a general impression of our circus and the family-friendly activities we provide.
CTV News: Stolen Circus Equipment Story
CTV broadcast a special on Rick Wallenda and the stolen costumes recovered by an Alberta school. Wallenda and his team were very grateful that the costumes had been found. Wallenda’s aunt knitted some of them, and they were sentimental for him and his group.
This strange incident resulted in an interesting encounter. Wallenda was able to connect with Tim Guinee of Hell on Wheels, who ended up loaning Wallenda tightrope walking shoes. Guinee then asked Wallenda to teach him tightrope walking.
Guinee describes himself as an individual with a passion for learning to tightrope-walk.
“Years ago, at college, there was a circus course, which included juggling and unicycle riding. One day, a teacher put up a tightwire just for that day. “I did it, thought it was fun, and then forgot about it,” said Guinee. “In my 40s, I was in LA, and I was talking to a trapeze girl at a party.
I mentioned to her that I would like to be on a tightwire again. She told me that she knew a school with a tightwire, but no one there teaches the discipline. I went there, and they allowed me to use the tightwire. You won’t die because it is only two feet above the ground. “I don’t understand how I became obsessed with it.”
Guinee complimented Wallenda and said that he is a great educator who is encouraging and willingly shares his expertise.
“At one point, I asked him about his training. Some wire walkers that I know are very secretive and won’t share what they believe they have discovered. They’re also very jealous and foolish. Guinee said that Rick was not like this.
Breakfast Television: The Globe of Death
The Globe of Death is one of our most popular summer activities. Breakfast Television aired a segment on this amazing attraction and showed how a group of riders can traverse the globe with perfect synchronization.
Elephant Painting Elephants
The majority of our guests come to the circus to see these amazing animals. Elephants are a fun family activity. We are proud to have so many talented elephants in our chaos. Suda, a Thai elephant known for her intelligence, was asked to paint a picture of an Elephant. You will be amazed at the accuracy of her painting.
Marie and Shelly have provided fun activities for families to enjoy for many years. They were praised for their dancing in 2014 to Psy’s Gangnam Style.
Next Year, See You!
The season is now over. We had a lot of fun with the family and hope to see you again next year. Families and individuals in Calgary, Red Deer Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, and the rest of Alberta can enjoy our fun summer entertainment. We’ll be back next summer with a brand new list of summer activities.
